Novi Amalia, the model who allegedly crashed her car into a group of seven pedestrians while under the influence of illegal substances, has been named a suspect for violating the Traffic Law. However, the police have not charged her for drug or alcohol abuse.
Jakarta Police spokesman Sr. Comr. Rikwanto said Thursday that the model was not charged for taking illegal substances because the police did not find evidence to support such allegations at the scene, even though urine tests indicated that Novi was intoxicated.
"She will only go to a rehabilitation centre chosen by the National Narcotics Agency for drug and alcohol abuse treatment," Rikwanto said as quoted by tempo.co.
The police will charge her with Articles 106, 310 and 311 of the 2009 Traffic Law, which carry a maximum sentence of one year in prison and a Rp 2 million (US$208) fine.
Novi allegedly hit seven pedestrians on Jl. Ketapang, Taman Sari, West Jakarta, while driving a red Honda Jazz under the influence of drugs and alcohol last weekend. The seven people suffered injuries in the incident.
Novi had allegedly taken ecstasy pills in her apartment before getting behind the wheel.
