VIDEO footage of the Canadian porn actor suspected of killing and dismembering his lover appeared to show the suspect eating the body, police said today.
Luka Rocco Magnotta, 29, who was an international fugitive for almost two weeks, was finally captured on Monday while looking at naked pictures of himself in an internet cafe in Berlin.
Montreal Police Commander Ian Lafreniere said that although police have not been able to conclusively confirm it, they suspect Magnotta did eat parts of the body.
Lafreniere said: 'As gross and as graphic as it could be, yes, it was seen on the video.'
A copy of the video viewed online did not show anyone eating the body but did show a man using a fork and knife on it.
Dramatic images of the moment Magnotta - dubbed the Canadian Psycho - was arrested have emerged. The porn actor told authorities in Germany yesterday he would not fight extradition to Canada.
That means Magnotta could be returned to Canada as early as this week. The Canadian Embassy in Berlin declined to comment on when Ottawa may file the official papers seeking extradition.
The arrest took place in an area of the German capital known for its gay bars and sordid sex joints.
It is unclear where Magnotta stayed in Berlin between Saturday morning and his arrest on Monday lunchtime. Police have said he stayed with ‘a friend’ – but whether that is someone he contacted during his brief time in the city, or someone he knew from old, remains unknown.
The manhunt began after Magnotta allegedly murdered and dismembered his former gay lover Jun Lin, 33 in his flat in Montreal on the night of May 24.
The university student’s torso was found in the apartment while parts of his body were posted to political offices in Ottawa.
As well as the killing, Magnotta faces charges of threatening Canada’s prime minister after sending a severed foot to his Conservative party headquarters. A hand sent to the Liberal party of Canada was found last Tuesday.
A ten-minute videotape purporting to record the horrific crime was posted online, showing a man stabbing his naked and bound victim with an ice pick.
The video, entitled One Lunatic, One Ice Pick, was set to the soundtrack from American Psycho, earning the suspect his nickname.
The attacker then hacks him to pieces and eats part of his flesh. He is also seen performing sexual acts on the corpse.
One member of the investigative team said the murderer ‘tears the victim apart like a doll’.
Other unsolved murder cases from across Canada were being reopened to see if they may be linked to Magnotta.
On the day he was finally arrested, cafe owner Uelkue Sungur said Magnotta had Googled his own name and searched for details of the police's desperate attempts to track him down, including those on the Interpol website. He had also read news stories about himself.
